Public Involvement

Proactive and early public involvement in the development of DuPage County Long Range Transportation Plan is essential. The goal of public involvement is to actively seek the participation of communities, agencies, individual interest groups, and the general public throughout the project development and design process. The County will work with the community to achieve consensus and communicate the decision-making process between the general public, public agencies, and governmental officials to identify transportation solutions for the Plan.

Defining who the "public" is and identifying all affected parties early in the planning process is key to ensuring that the full range of public opinion is heard during the development of the plan. For the development of the DuPage LRTP, a stakeholder is anyone who could be affected by the project and has a stake in its outcome. Stakeholders for this project may include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Residents
  • Elected/Community Officials
  • Business Community
  • Developers
  • Civic Organizations
  • Professional Associations
  • Institutions
  • Emergency Services
  • Advocates for Community
  • Special Interest Groups
  • Government and Transportation Agencies
  • Transportation System Users
  • Chambers of Commerce
  • Neighborhood Groups
  • Environmental Coalitions
  • Railroads and Utilities
  • Media Firms
  • Others outside the study area with an interest in the project

Throughout the project, all interested participants will be kept informed via committees, e-blasts, the project website, public meetings, newsletters, surveys, committee participation, social media and press releases about the progress and key decisions. A Stakeholder Involvement Plan (SIP) has been drafted to guide the process.

The SIP:

  • Identifies stakeholders
  • Identifies the Executive Committee (EC) and their role and responsibilities
  • Identifies the Steering Committee (SC) and their role and responsibilities
  • Identifies Advisory Committee (AC) and their role and responsibilities
  • Establishes the timing and type of involvement activities with all stakeholders
  • Establishes stakeholder requirements for providing timely input to the project development process

These efforts will increase awareness and information about the DuPage LRTP and ensure that the final plan reflects the needs and wants of our community. The plan will be posted on the website for the public to review.
